Premium ULIP sintered pads for ZOOM brakes

Sintered brake pads for ENGWE E26 are a premium option for a suitable caliper accepting the ZOOM pad shape, when you want a more durable friction lining for frequent braking and wet riding. The bronze-colored backing plates have a broad rectangular lining, one upper retention tab and an included separating spring. The set contains two pads for one brake caliper.

Why choose a sintered metal lining?

Sintering bonds metal particles into a solid friction compound under pressure and at high temperature. Compared with resin-bonded linings, its main advantages are resistance to wear, particularly in water and dirt, and generally a more pronounced initial braking bite. This can be a useful upgrade for demanding everyday use, where a longer service life can mean less frequent replacement.

Safer braking depends on the whole system: a suitable rotor, correctly fitted and bedded-in pads, and tire grip. A sintered lining does not guarantee the same stopping distance on every surface and does not prevent brake overheating during prolonged braking. It can be noisier and may increase wear on an unsuitable rotor. Use it only when both the caliper and rotor permit sintered metal pads.

Ceramic, semi-metallic and sintered pad comparison

Version Friction compound and choice
Green ceramic – ULP4654.00 The supplier specifies a ceramic compound with a resin binder. An option for ordinary riding; resin-bonded linings are generally quieter and give a more progressive lever feel. Actual wear depends on composition and conditions.
Semi-metallic – ULP174.15 Metal constituents are included in a resin-bonded friction compound. An intermediate material category between predominantly non-metallic and sintered linings; the name alone does not specify metal percentage or proven braking power.
Orange Multi-metal / Superior Metal – ULP5607.00 The supplier describes these as multi-metal. They are a different product from the green ceramic pads and these bronze-colored sintered pads. Without manufacturing-process information, the multi-metal label cannot be treated as equivalent to a sintered compound.
Bronze-colored sintered metal – ULP8560.1 A premium metal lining made from sintered particles. Its main advantages over resin-bonded linings are durability in wet and dirty conditions and a firm initial bite. For demanding use with an approved rotor; contact may be more audible.

The terms “ceramic”, “semi-metallic” and “full-metal” describe compound categories whose composition is not standardized across manufacturers. A full-metal sintered lining therefore does not mean a confirmed 100 percent pure-metal content. No comparative stopping-distance or service-life measurements are published for ULIP, so choose according to the brake and riding conditions.

Technical features and fitment

  • Vehicle model: ENGWE E26; only with a fitted caliper accepting the appropriate ZOOM pad shape.
  • Lining: sintered metal; bronze-colored backing plate.
  • Approximate width: 30.6 mm; overall height including the tab: 35.1 mm; overall thickness: 4.1 mm.
  • Retention-hole diameter: approximately 3.2 mm.
  • Included: two pads, separating spring and split pin; one set for one caliper.
  • Before purchase, compare the old pad outline, tab, retainer and spring clearance. The same vehicle model can have a different caliper fitted.
  • Do not use on rotors marked “RESIN PAD ONLY”.
  • The same external shape is not sufficient approval for a metal lining. When changing lining type, also check the caliper and rotor manufacturers’ approval.

When to replace brake pads and how to start

Inspect both pads when braking performance deteriorates, lever travel increases, wear is uneven or you hear metal rubbing. Replace pads when the friction lining reaches the brake manufacturer’s minimum thickness, or when the lining is cracked, detached or soaked in oil or grease. The overall 4.1 mm thickness includes the backing plate and is not a wear limit. Do not wait until the rotor rubs against the metal backing; resolve poor braking before riding again.

  1. Position the vehicle securely, switch off the drive and let the brake cool. Check the caliper identification and the rotor’s compatibility with sintered pads.
  2. Following your brake instructions, remove the wheel if needed, then the retainer, old pair and spring. Do not squeeze a hydraulic brake lever while the wheel or pads are removed.
  3. Inspect the rotor, its permitted minimum thickness and any leakage. Clean the rotor with a product approved by the brake manufacturer; do not touch new friction surfaces with greasy hands.
  4. Prepare the pistons with suitable tools and the caliper’s specified procedure. Insert both new pads, the separating spring and an appropriate retainer. Always replace the pair in the same caliper.
  5. After assembly, align the caliper and check free wheel rotation, secure attachment and firm lever response. Have a mechanic inspect the brake if the lever remains soft, there is leakage or you are unsure about installation.

Bedding in after replacement

On a level, safe area away from traffic, make several controlled, progressive decelerations without locking the wheel. Begin at low speed and increase the load according to the brake manufacturer’s instructions. Check both brakes before normal riding and avoid prolonged continuous braking during bedding in. Cleanliness, correct installation and bedding in provide even contact between pads and rotor.
